IR Student Admit Term and Admit Type – Including “Admit” Address
Last Update: 6/27/2017
“Student Admit Term” indicates when a student first enrolled in his or her degree-seeking or non-degree studies at any IU campus in a particular academic career. “Student Admit Type” indicates the student’s entry classification (e.g. “first-year undergraduate”) when he or she first enrolled in a particular academic career and degree-seeking status. Note that UIRR’s use of these fields indicates when the student first enrolled at IU, rather than when the student was “admitted.” Also, each student can have a different admit term/type for each combination of academic career[1] and degree-seeking status.
Here is an example of one student. In some cases, no admit type was recorded for this student.
Academic Career | Degree-Seeking Status | Admit Term | Term Description | Admit Type | Admit Type Description |
UGRD | NDEG | 3732 | Spring Semester 1972-1973 |

The fields STU_ADMT_TERM_CD and STU_ADMT_TYP_CD are used as described above in the following tables, among others:
STU_ADMT_TERM_CD reflects the earliest term of enrollment or degree completion in one of the following data sources, by student, academic career, and degree-seeking status:
STU_ADMT_TYP_CD reflects the best-match admit type that corresponds with the STU_ADMT_TERM_CD for the student, academic career, and degree-seeking status. The value is selected from one of these data sources:
Sample values for STU_ADMT_TYP_CD include the examples below. The “transfer” values indicate that the student came to IU from another (non-IU) college or university when beginning his/her studies at IU in this academic career.
Academic Career | Admit Type | Admit Type Description |
UGRD | FYU | First-Year Beginner Undergrad |
UGRD | TRU | Transfer Student Undergrad |
GRAD | FYG | First-Year Beginner Graduate |
GRAD | TRG | Transfer Student Graduate |
LAW | FYL | First-Year Beginner Law |
LAW | TRL | Transfer Student Law |
OPT | FYO | First-Year Beginner Optometry |

IR Student Admit Address
The following columns are captured to report geographical data for a student as of the date when the student first enrolled in an academic career, and for a particular degree-seeking status. These columns can be found in the same tables that are listed above for STU_ADMT_TERM_CD.
Column Names | Column Descriptions | Column Format |
PRSN_ADMT_HM_CNTY_CD | Admissions Home County Code | Varchar2(2) |
PRSN_ADMT_HM_CNTY_NM | Admissions Home County Name | Varchar2(30) |
PRSN_ADMT_HM_ST_CD | Admissions Home State Code | Varchar2(2) |
PRSN_ADHM_ZIP_CD | Admissions Home Zip Code | Varchar2(6) |
PRSN_ADDR_ADHM_CNTRY_CD | Admissions Home Country Code | Varchar2(3) |
For example, the geographic data in the Enrollment Summary Tool (EST) in the following UIRR Tableau Dashboard are based on the IR Student Admit Address data: https://iuia.iu.edu/finding-data/enrollment/index.html
All fields are selected using the earliest Enroll Add Date for the student’s academic career and Student Admit Term, and choosing the address effective date that is less than or equal to the Enroll Add Date. The highest priority is given to the address type of ADHM followed by MAIL, HOME, and then LOCL. For example, if there is no address type of ADHM for a student, then a check is done to see if there is an address with the address type of MAIL, etc.
PRSN_ADMT_HM_CNTY_CD and PRSN_ADMT_HM_CNTY_NM are only populated for students with a state address of IN (Indiana).
The source of student address data is ODS_PSE.PS_ADDRESSES. Below are the corresponding fields:
PS_ADDRESSES | IR_DEGR_ADMT_TERM_TYP_GT |
COUNTY | PRSN_ADMT_HM_CNTY_NM |
STATE | PRSN_ADMT_HM_ST_CD |
POSTAL | PRSN_ADHM_ZIP_CD |
COUNTRY | PRSN_ADDR_ADHM_CNTRY_CD |
PSE_CNTY_CD_GT | IR_DEGR_ADMT_TERM_TYP_GT |
CC_CNTY_CD | PRSN_ADMT_HM_CNTY_CD |
[1] When determining admit term and type for the academic careers of GRAD and GRD1, these two academic careers are treated as one. The earliest term enrollment between these two careers determines the admit term that is reported for both.
